Some Sensible Architects Share A Meal

After the moustacherie madness of Movember came the Office Christmas Bake-Off …
And after the Office Christmas Bake-Off came the Office Christmas Lunch.
And immediately after the Office Christmas Lunch came the Office Christmas Party, but fortunately (being Dive … see old Christmas Party posts) I managed to skip out before that happened.

First up: the winner of the Office Christmas Bake-Off:

Hail the conquering hero comes! Yes, Adrian (he of the Christmas Village) did indeed walk away with the coveted chef's hat for the 2010-2011 season. Luke (he of the poo-covered dog biscuits) proudly lifted the wooden spoon. Cassie's gingerbread witch's cottage took second place and Erin was too confused and flustered to announce the rest of the results but I shall try to find out where I came later.

After that, things became pretty much of a blur …

There was booze …

Lots of booze.

Things started quite sedately with a nice lunch.

The parsnip soup was yummy.

But then Santa came, bearing gifts and … er … elastic band guns.

The man in the Santa hat is a senior partner and my immediate boss.

Staying sober was tricky, but somehow I managed it. This was lunchtime and they'd booked the rooms until eleven at night and a lot of them were then going clubbing. I think it's going to be pretty quiet and lonely in the office this morning.

Girls will be girls.

Some more than others.

Give an architect cranberries and a couple of scoops of ice cream and inevitably there will be boobs.
We're a classy bunch.

Sophisticated humour is our forte.

That, and aeronautics.

Secret Santa shares our exquisite taste.

Willie racing was still going on when I left.

Girls and Guns …

… and booze.

As the cocktails went down the boys got boisterous.

"The name is Bond …"

Those mischievous young scamps decorated their boss's jacket.

Tastefully.

And then the serious drinking started.

And so the more elderly and sedate (and sober) of us left early …

… before the karaoke, the dancing contests and the forfeits got started.

Sheesh … Merry Christmas everybody!

That was a great start to my day, good post, I do hope you were not too much of a party pooper!

You have landed in a great crowd of people by the looks of things, hope they all got home safely. What lovely looking girls, eye candy in the office you are lucky!

Congratulations to the winners of the cake contest.

All the years of being in the pub trade, sad that I can have just as much fun as they appear to be having but I cannot drink as you well know, the old legs and arms go weak and wobbly, and you all laugh at me, but never let it be said that I do not give the appearance of being well drunk ha ha and have great fun. So hope you did the same before you left the party.

Merry Christmas to them all.

So sorry to have missed the penis races, but one must maintain one's dignity.

Happy holidays to all at the office. They are a good bunch! Or at least they were, until yesterday...

I'm sure they'll be pleased you posted these.

Mum, when you reach a certain age you can behave just as you please and bugger what anybody thinks.
Enjoy your gig tonight.

Savannah, everybody had way too good a time, as I shall relate in tomorrow's post.
xoxoxoxox

Petrea, the penis race was about the most dignified thing that happened after I left.
I've seen the photos and videos.
Oh, my.

Yay for the Christmas village!

The parts you've shown here look fun...er...but I think I might have left before it got too crazy, too.

Ooh! My faculty party is tomorrow! Where can I get those racing willies?

Looks like your office knows how to "party hearty" (perhaps an understatement?).
The excitement at my work party was one of the gifts, the "Merry-oke" -- a karaoke microphone for sing-along Christmas carols. Lyrics (both traditional and naughty) were included. Oh, and the microphone transforms your voice into a whacked-out "elf" voice.
Of course, the Merry-oke could never compete with racing willies....

OMG! I was honestly astounded to see an attractive young woman posing willingly with a chocolate willy on her nose. If you were to try a party like that over here, you'd be lined up and shot by the Politically Correct police, but then I do come from an anal, up-tight, prudish and otherwise hypocritical, right-wing "Christian" part of the country...

Where I can get some of the willy racers?

Robyn, you and I are always on the same wavelength. "Fun … er" is precisely how I would have defined the lunch. The party afterwards was not for me.

Neetzy, just about any trashy gift shop over here sells them, together with willie ice cube makers, chocolate and cake moulds and way too many tacky sexually fixated food items. We are truly going to hell in a handcart.

Oh, my, Ms.M. I am SO glad I left before the karaoke. Your Merry-oke sounds so festive I would run screaming from the room.

Speedway, really? Sheesh! I'm so glad we dumped all our Puritans on you guys. Over here, blatant sexual deviancy is de rigeur at any social event. Your right wing "Christians" REALLY wouldn't want to know what Kellie and the others got up to after I left.
I've seen photos.
And video.
And heard the stories.

As for willy racers: just about everywhere in England.

Wow. And you company bosses don't get sued for sexual harassment or anything over all this?

I hate work parties. Being with people out of context like that makes me uncomfortable. How can you pretend to be professional with someone you had a penis race with the week before?

dive said...

Katherine, the girls do way more harrassing than the boys.
I hate work parties, too, which is why I left before this one got out of hand. Though I have no problem being professional with people I've raced penises with; I do far worse with them every Friday lunchtime: we go BOWLING!

Katherine said...

Bowling? NOT BOWLING! That's the most debaucherous of all!

dive said...

It's the WORST! I'd never bowled in fifty-three years but now I'm part of the office Friday lunchtime bowling insanity. I feel like I've been hit over the head with the DUMB stick because I actually enjoy it.

Speedway said...

I understand, Katherine, I understand. I've always been very uncomfortable at office parties, not because there's anything I'm too prudish to be interested in, but because there's never anyone at work I'd want to do that "stuff" with; there's that feeling like it's some kind of incest to be involved w/someone from work. It's weird. How does one face them the next day and remain professional?

Katherine said...

"How does one face them the next day and remain professional?" EXACTLY, Speedway! In my younger years, I really struggled with that and discovered I did a poor job at compartmentalizing, so it was best to keep work friends as work friends, which meant avoiding hanging outside of work. My jobs are different now, so I don't have to worry about office parties anymore, thank God, but the idea still makes me uncomfortable.

dive said...

Hee hee, you two. I always used to keep my work and home completely separate but the new office is different in that we do social stuff together all the time and they're such a great bunch that it feels entirely natural and unforced.
Of course, there's a part of me that says "Oh, for goodness sake, children, DO grow up." when they get the chocolate willies out, but then I remember what I was like when I was young and join in the fun.
