Ding Dong, etc …

Boy howdy, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the head of Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence got the call this morning. I imagine he must have comprehensively soiled himself. A lot of people over there are going to need several changes of underwear over the coming week.

I deplore triumphalism but I think I'll have to forgive US celebrations today.
For once, Western intelligence services appear to have shown signs of intelligence. So hearty congratulations to them, the US special forces team who went in and did the deed and to President Obama for his almost non-triumphalist announcement of the fact.
Speaking as someone who was travelling on the train immediately in front of one of the 7/7/05 London tube bombs, all I'll say is payback is indeed a bitch, Mr. bin Laden.

Yes. It is indeed a good thing! But the idiots are going off about it already.

I also agree it's a good thing. And it's understandable why people are celebrating, particularly those whose loved ones were killed because of this b@$t@rd.

but some other reactions I've read, I don't understand....

My thoughts entirely.

Well said Dive. The world has one less evil person living on it.

"Let us remember that bin Laden posed as a leader of Muslims, but he was in fact a mass murderer of Muslims, who killed more Muslims than people of any other faith … The myth of bin Laden was that he was a freedom fighter living a frugal existence in caves and mountains. In fact he asked others to make the ultimate sacrifice, while himself living in a luxurious villa in suburban Pakistan."

(from remarks by British PM David Cameron to the House of Commons, 5/2/11)

Neetzy, she has caused suffering to millions the world over. Send in the SEALs.

Ms.M: AAAAUGH!

Good quote, Petrea. Cameron is a complete and utter dickwad but for once his speechwriter is on the nail.
Bin Laden was an embittered and cowardly thug, preying on the ignorant and fearful and fooling them into committing indiscriminate violence for the sake of his own twisted idealism (actually that sounds pretty much like my description of Bush - what goes around comes around).
He did not represent Islam. The Qur'an forbids actions such as his. Witness the mass outpouring of grief from Muslims the world over … er … or not.
He may be remembered, but like Hitler and Stalin he shall certainly not be mourned.

Savannah came up with my favourite quote on the subject: Mark Twain's "I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

She has caused suffering to my ears and my eyes. A definite horse face if there ever was one.

The Twain quote fits this situation to a T.

Good quote by Cameron (or his speechwriter), too....

Neetzy, her crimes against music have defiled the entire planet, but thanks for reminding me that she is also a crime against beauty, too.

Ms.M: Having Mark Twain and David Cameron in the same comments bag is a horrifying reminder of how far intellect has sunk over the past century.
