500 Words XIII - This Week's Sentence

Heads up.
It's time for this week's sentence.

This one's in honour of Vanda, in apology for my own adoration of Russian writers; it's from the only Russian writer she likes, the splendid Mikhail Bulgakov, and is taken from his incomparably anarchic and magical 'The Master And Margarita'.

The sentence is:
"Witchcraft once started, as we all know, is virtually unstoppable."

You know the rules. You know your places. Go to it!

Vanda looked at the quote in excitement, but then the realization struck her. "Don't write Harry Potter fanfic, don't write Harry Potter fanfic." - She kept repeating to herself.

Hee hee, Vanda!
I gave myself a similar admonition, not to go all Willow Rosenberg.
I think we'll have to make this a Hermione and Willow-free assignment.

Vanda said...

...and especially don't do HP/Buffy crossover.

dive said...

An HP/Buffy crossover?
Hermione and Willow?
Oh, my!
Now that is way too tempting, Vanda.
Quite apart from the obvious porn movie potential, a slamdown witchy catfight between those two would be hilarious!

Vanda said...

Dive, if anyone can do it, it's you.

Vanda said...

I did it! And it's completely silly.

dive said...

Silly is good; completely silly is wonderful!
I'll pop across and read it in the morning, Vanda, once I have mine completed.
I can't wait! I love silliness.

This one is very tempting. I'll give it a go. Even though I might not finish.

I was thinking more along the lines of Practical Magic, by Alice Hoffmann.

I'm a little behind in reading this last weeks selections and getting started for next week; apparently part of a writing class means TONS OF WRITING! At any rate, I'll try to get caught up and read everyone's works over the next couple days.

[] write 1500 word story due Wednesday
[] write 500 word story due Wednesday
[] workshop three classmates 1500 word stories by Wednesday
[] read this weeks 500 words submissions on dive's site
[] write a 500 word submission for dive's site
[] read a third of a Stephen King novel for Wednesday
[] overdose on coffee

Being busy is a state of mind, procrastinating is an art-form! -me

Neetzy: Cool! I can't wait!. Don't worry about not finishing in time as I'll be in Paris on Thursday so you'll have an extra week (though I'll be setting a sentence next week, too, as I love slave-driving).

Todd: Yikes! Be careful you don't sprain anything creative with all that work. I can't wait to read the results.

Yay. I might be able to do it without that godawful deadline! Have an excellent time in Paris with Katie!

Pant, pant.

Okay, it's posted up on my site. If someone could ever tell me how to link sites to posts like Vanda so eloquently does, I'd be forever indebted.

For this weeks assignment I'm ashamed to say I chopped up the quote (just a little) and sprinkled it into my 1500 word assignment. So I'm way breaking the rules on this one (ducks).

[x] write 1500 word story due Wednesday
[ ] write 500 word story due Wednesday
[x] workshop three classmates 1500 word stories by Wednesday
[ ] read this weeks 500 words submissions on dive's site
[x] write a 500 word submission for dive's site
[x] read a third of a Stephen King novel for Wednesday
[x] overdose on coffee

I'm getting there, bear with me!

Okay, I've posted up my works for class. My 1500 word story, Hallowed Rescue, that has elements for the 500 word assignment this week (sorry dive for combining them into one, my fingers couldn't type fast enough for a third story).

Also, another 500 word assignment exercise from class, its a short called Nina. Enjoy.

I'll start catching up on reading everyone's works that I've missed! I can't wait!

PS ... can anyone tell me what the deal is with hitting -enter- when posting blogs? It jumps you to the bottom of the screen, is there a way around it?

PPS Whats with all the word verifications lately?

PPPS anyone have a good soup recipe?

I gave it a whirl this time around.

Catching up on my readings this week. Shazza, nicely done. I tried to post a comment on your site but looks like its locked down. Fun times! Now Neetzy and I need to catch up to you and Vanda!

Okay, so it occurred to me that this one didn't get many/any hits for return stories - what a terrible way for us to honor Vanda since this one was for her!

I know I got busy and had to pass this one up, but did we want to try again? Or did we get stories on this one? We can't toast our friends with empty glasses!

PS my word verification today is Troutsy ... ha ha, "Casting his line into the rolling river, the Fisherman wrinkled his nose - it smelled so troutsy." lol

Todd: While I was away in Paris Robyn took over the onerous task of publishing the stories.

Here is her post URL:

There were some fun stories!
