Modern Times (Again)

As my long term neighbours here in Blogville are well aware, I am a patient and easygoing man, rarely given to splenetic ranting. Certain things about this modern world, however, have been known to confound me to such an extent that I am pushed to verbal retaliation; the inexorable rise of the mobile telephone, for instance.

Just lately I have noticed another unfortunate trend (oh, and don't get me started on those 'trendy' morons who misuse the word 'trend' as a verb; they deserve to have their tiny dinosaur brains ripped out through their anuses by hordes of ravening mutant mole-rats and I am currently working on a viable method of achieving this, so watch out).

No, the trend of which I speak - yet another irreversible and slippery step downward into the fœtid  morass of cultural despair in which we helplessly flail - comes from the users of touch-screen mobile devices, who are now so inured to mindless, chimp-like finger-painting on their imbecile micro-screens that they become confused when faced with a professional using a real screen to produce real work.

Listen up (you know who you are): keep your filthy, arse-scratching, smeary, nose-picking, greasy, food-covered, stinking, mayonnaise-smirched, fat fucking fingers off my nice clean monitor screens, you unutterable bastards!

Message ends.

Car Porn Thursday - Maz

I've got so many hundreds of car porn photos clogging up my hard drives and this morning I woke up with an empty brain, so decided to start yet another pointless photo-post stream.

Welcome to Car Porn Thursday!

Today we're bemoaning the general decline in design; that vertiginous drop in the standard of taste and style over the past fifty years, the self-evident proof of which can be seen by simply opening your eyes and gazing sadly at today's clothing, popular media, manners, politics, business and, of course, automobile design.

This is what a Maserati looks like. The company has lost the plot completely and today builds something that looks like everything else, only slightly uglier. And they're not alone, as future Thursdays will amply demonstrate.

Wednesday Window

Right … that's the US election out of the way. Back to posting pointless photographs of windows on a Wednesday.

Hey Ho

After the most disgusting, vituperative, poisonous, divisive years of "campaigning" in history, with more lies, bigotry and sheer insanity on display than during Hitler's rise to power, and the tattered shreds of America's last vestiges of credibility blithely tossed away, it was something of a relief this morning to see both candidates furiously back-pedalling and attempting to paper over the yawning chasms they have created by calling for Americans to work together.

Just think of what could have been done with the money they spent splitting the country irreconcilably in two had they thought to say that back at the start.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Meanwhile, Back in the Real World …

I'm not going to go off on one about what's happening over in the Colonies today … you know my views on that.
Instead, lets all just sit calmly and listen to what the tree has to say.

Yes, I am well aware that my office walls are pink.

Greetings from the Frozen North. I'm writing this on the Macbook Pro you can see in the foreground. The thermometer in reception is hovering about the freezing mark but I'm okay today as I've got all my Observatory thermals, my lap-duvet and I had the sense to bring in a fan heater from home.
Yes, I know my office is a mess. My whole life is a mess so why should my office be any different?

At least the view out of the window is nice (except I took these yesterday and today it's sleeting heavily … bleah). Plus I'm the only one here so the place is filled with high volume Bach.
Right … better get busy with another weekend of unpaid toil. Maybe Mister Scrooge will let me have an afternoon off over Christmas.
Happy weekend, folks.

Friday

Don't you just wish …?
I'm on my twelfth day straight without a break, having worked - unpaid - through last weekend in sub-zero temperatures with no heating in the office; so Friday is even more welcome than usual. They haven't asked me to work this weekend (yet), so I'm looking forward to wriggling through the bars and flying away.
Well maybe not flying. I intend to spend this weekend doing as little as possible. This evening I'll go see The Worst Band In The World™ and tomorrow morning is Breakfast Club, but after that I'm going to hit the sofa and the books and be a lazy-assed layabout through 'til Monday.

Enjoy your Fridays!
