WTF Monday - Safety At Sea Special

I found this hanging off a fishing vessel at Wells on the North Norfolk coast.

Bearing in mind that the North Sea between North Norfolk and Norway can be one of the stormiest and most dangerous stretches of water anywhere, I think I would want to see a slightly more seaworthy lifeboat before I put to sea.

Click on the picture for a larger image, with more holes and rust.

Shit. That's a lifeboat? I'd rather an inflatable!

Whoa! A lifeboat?? How long can you tread water?

Yup. I think you'd be better off leaping straight into the sea.

It's this damned recession.

All this needs is a bit of duct tape and I'd feel safe in it. Not that I'd want to attempt a trip from Norfolk to Norway.

Petrea: Never mind this recession; I think that lifeboat has been unseaworthy since the Great Depression of the thirties.

Katie: Hoorah for duct tape, panacæa of the world's ills. Even taped up, however, I would not trust this boat in a paddling pool, let alone the raging, icy North Sea. Yikes!

Maybe they're donating this one to some maritime museum? Or selling it to a fishing company in the Philippines!

Joy: If you want to save on flight costs (and avoid volcanoes and strikes) you could always row this rusty little beauty to Manila for your vacation.
Or maybe not. It might be better as a garden feature.

Nope, it doesn't look safe. Hey, my maiden name is Wells. Maybe my people are originally from there.

Spookily enough, Wells is the place I took that photo I sent you of the two boats side by side named "Robyn" and "Eustacia." Did you ever show her that one?

perhaps it's just decorative, sugar! *snickering* xoxoxo

HaHA! I much prefer my antiques/Hollywood props to be retired and on display rather than in the "in case of emergency" position. :D Hilarious!

At least there are oars in it. Perhaps they'll float, so those who need rescuing have something to hold onto.

Savannah: Decorative! Hee hee. Definitely a conversation piece but not exactly kind to the eye.
xoxoxo

Shan: Not so much "antique shop" as "junkyard" I think.

Lupine Lady: When your oars are more seaworthy than your lifeboat it is time to worry.

That's the stunt boat!
