Sheesh! Temperatures in the high eighties and the lilac and clematis going nutso in my garden (click on the pic for a larger image, regrettably not in smell-o-vision) and how do I spend my weekend?

Yup, holed up in a darkened room with Mikey, playing Red Dead Redemption.
I know there's something wrong with me, you don't need to say.
Enjoy your own weekends in whatever way you will.

Oh how beautiful!
Oh to be in England now that May's there...oops, that's April. Oh well. Thanks for letting us share in the beauty.
So, is it like role play stuff? And you are, what? Captain Maturity?
Cynthia: It is the best part of the year here (or it usually is; this year we have a pesky heatwave … it's ninety-plus in here and a lot hotter outside. Sheesh).
Petrea: It's just the latest silly game from the Grand Theft Auto people. Mikey and myself have never grown up. We intend to go straight from immaturity into second childhood as soon as we're old enough.
We started using the A/C last night because I couldn't bear the heat (though I must say that we'll be in Manila in 2 weeks and it's around 37C over there)!
Yesterday had lunch in the garden with the in-laws under direct sunlight. Bad bad bad - had migraine coz of it :(
Your flowers are gorgeous!
You must come for a barbecue one weekend in July!
Everything here bloomed in late April, early May. Now its cold and cloudy again.
Beautiful.... my garden looks good too maybe you will come and find me one day! ha ha only kidding.....
Joy: I am seriously considering getting air con in my bedroom. Sheesh! Roll on autumn!
Yikes for going outside in that insane heat. Mad dogs and Englishmen are now joined by Joy.
Having lilac, jasmine and honeysuckle just outside my bathroom window makes me hate being anosmic. They must smell glorious but I shall never know. Still, at least they are nice to look at.
As for barbecue: hee hee. Thank you so much, but you know me: I stay indoors in the summer (hay fever hell) and hate barbecued food (I know how much you love it, sorry), but we must definitely get together and play catch-up soon.
Neetzy: I'll swap you some of this heatwave for your colder air. I'll pop some hot, sticky air in a bag and post it if you'll do the same with the cold stuff.
Mum: Your garden ALWAYS looks good.
Poor Dive! Does it affect your sense of taste? I wouldn't want you to miss out on any delicious foods.
I'm the opposite (hyperosmic?) and thus a picky eater. Some flavors are just too strong. And some smells that other people like are migraine-inducers for me.
Petrea: yikes! Poor you! That sounds much worse than what I've got.
It did indeed ruin my sense of taste for a few years but I have adjusted and over time have become able to "smell" by inhaling sharply and letting the aroma play around the roof of my mouth. Weird, but apparently cats do that, too and it works well enough for me to confidently blind-taste wines and tell claret from burgundy, though I'm not good enough to identify individual vineyards, dammit.
The one this that does annoy me, however, is false smells. I'll wake up some days and be able to smell oranges or washday or any number of odd aromas really strongly and it takes days to go away. That is icky when it comes to eating because everything tastes of whatever the false smell is.
Hey ho; the odd burdens we bear.
I am a hyper sniffer myself and it can be rough sometimes being around 'tween boys and pets. Maybe THAT'S why I don't do seafood! Don't know. But I know you'd like your sniffer back for such fragrant times as Spring.
I am missing you and your DIVE-VINE ways and "chatting" with all my blog friends. You are not forgotten. I definitely blame facebook for my failings elsewhere. :( You were probably right to curse it. :)
I don't know, Dive, yours sounds worse (and I don't have teenage boys, like Shan). So what, strong cheese is out, and I'm the pariah when it comes to French food. No big deal. At least lunch doesn't taste like washday.
Shan: boys and pets? Eww! Two of the planet's least attractive smells.
And yes, I still curse Facebook, though mostly because I am barred from using it in my job so I kinda got left behind when everyone skipped town.
Petrea: Hee hee. Yes, that washday smell is the worst! It happens about once a year and it is the smell that used to permeate our tiny, damp little terraced house when I was a kid. Apart from the infamous outside toilet (from my older posts) there was a single cold tap and a copper in the corner which you lit a fire under to heat water. Mondays were wash days and the AWFUL stench of warm, damp linen and cheap soap flakes has haunted me ever since.
It certainly ruins a nice risotto.
The worst part about being anosmic, however, is that I cannot smell gas or burning. I once forgot to switch off a ring on the gas hob and if it were not for Mikey popping round to visit and alerting me to the smell of gas I might have blown the whole house sky high.
Scary.
Well yes, there is that. I save our lives all the time, I'm sure, from gas leaks, stuffy rooms and perfume attacks. It does come in handy.
As for Facebook, they've been in the news lately. The New York Times published a graphic of the myriad steps one has to endure to go through their privacy labyrinth, and there's been an outcry. They (FB) announced that they may have been "out of touch" and will do something about it. We'll see.
Aargh! Perfume attacks! I've moaned about this before, but being anosmic the only thing I pick up on from perfume is the taste of solvent in the air. A woman might as well douse herself in turpentine, petrol or paint; to me they smell no different to Chanel no.5.
It must be dreadful for you being supersensitive to such things. Getting stuck on the tube next to someone with a fetish for soaking their skin and clothing in stinky perfume makes me gag so it must be many times worse for you. Sheesh!
Listen up, people: WASH YOURSELVES! Being clean is the most attractive fragrance of all.
As for Facebook, one of the main reasons we are banned form using it as Trust employees is its appalling lack of security. If they tighten things up enough, maybe I'll be able to join one day.
Yeah, a lot of viruses come through Facebook applications. I don't use them. But I do like its capacity for communication. It's got a lot of pluses but just as many minuses, unfortunately.
Mmmmm? He's coming around a little? JOIN DIVE! Just so we can all keep in touch better. You've got home use still.
Petrea: it's not so much virus security we're worried about here, but personal security (which is horrifically lax in Facebook). We have 30,000 schoolgirls in our care so our web security has to be absolutely watertight. Social networking sites are a playground for pædophiles so we block all access to them.
Shan: My home internet connection is hooked up through the office servers so as long as social networking sites are blocked at work I cannot access them from home either (not that I have the time).
I'll stick to Blogville, even if it gets pretty quiet around here at times.
Ohhhhh. That makes sense. I saw that you have to keep security tight for the schools. Yep.
I am just out of the habit of blogging a lot and it is hard for any of us to find time in certain seasons of life.
I'm not preaching to you anymore because I gave up the hard sell AND you are not doing all the angst filled posts anymore. I have not given up on you, however, but I am growing uneasy of your Marxist leanings with our gov't headed that way. EEEEEEK! Have a great weekend Dive!! :) Keep reading Revelation!!!! (I guess I do still have the same obnoxious approach with you-baha)
Hi, Shan!
It always tickles me when Americans think their government has Socialist leanings. Hee hee. Obama's Democrats would be classed as pretty right-wing over here, with the Republicans way further to the right, somewhere around Fascist territory.
I have no idea why the US lurched so far to the right after WWII … it's a very dangerous development for the planet as a whole.
Yes, I am still keeping up my Bible reading, though I prefer to concentrate on the teachings of Jesus (after all, that's what a Christian should base their life upon) than the OT or Revelation, however entertaining they might be.
Have fun out there in Facebook Land!
Wow, what an interesting conversation I missed. It is very true that facebook is time consuming and I find that I spend much less time in blogville these days although for my favourite people like you and Maria, who aren't on facebook, I will always be around to admire such beautiful photographs as this one, Dive. Truly spectacular. Perhaps it's time I tried growing lilacs.
Mme: Lilacs are too easy to grow (and very difficult to keep from spreading), but in a garden the size of yours, a group of purple and white lilacs would be wonderful.
