This week's sentence was taken from volume II of "The History Of England From The Accession Of James II" by the incomparably entertaining and insightful Thomas Babington Macauley.
The sentence was: "The measure of a man's real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out."
First to hand in her assignment:
Vanda's 'Secrets of the High Tower'
Rosamund returns! Yay for schoolgirl assassins. This time our heroine's sleuthing and I certainly wouldn't like to be in the shoes of the sleuthee (is that a word? … Well it is now).
And a really busy week for Vanda. She also posted the unfinished (and delightfully teasing) story from an older 500 Words assignment:
Vanda's 'Half-Assed'
Oooooh, bodily fluids in the carpet, and that's not all that needs scrubbing out of it. A glorious start, tantalisingly set up. I do hope Vanda manages to finish it one day, though I have a feeling this is more the start of a novella than a mere 500 Words story.
Dive's 'The Envelope'
We're back with the Bartleby stories once again. This one finds Mac a year on from the very first story and in an almost identical situation. Nothing much happens this week, I'm afraid; he's not involved in shooting someone or enjoying casual sex with a waitress but we do get a teensy insight into his character.
Any more that come in will get posted up here. Next assignment tomorrow. Sharpen your pencils and fill your brains with caffeine.
Oh, and once you've done that, pop across to Shazza's new site and in particular this post. Click on her link and go check out her friend Paul's songs. What a great voice the man has. As deep and rich as my coffee.
Enjoy!

As usual Dive, your taste in music is only surpassed by your good looks and wit! Thanks I needed a new outlet.
Hahahahaha, Prudence. Thank you for a good giggle. I needed that.
I had a feeling you'd appreciate the guy's voice.
37?
There have been THIRTY SEVEN 500 word stories/opening lines?
How did that happen?
Where have I been?
Have I really been floating/absent that long?
*sigh*
*double sigh*

Savannah: You just got me curious, so I counted up. We've had 37 sentences and 119 stories to date.
One-hundred and nineteen? Sheesh!
I must confess I've enjoyed every single one.
