In honour of Katherine's inclusion of a vampire reference in her last story and also the current obsession of the planet's twelve-year-old girls for all things vamp (I even saw on my regular trawl of the bookshops a new paperback of 'The Picture Of Dorian Grey' vamped up with a brooding teen boy in a cape on the cover … outrageously cynical marketing at its most venal), I have delved this week into the original well and taken our sentence from
Bram Stoker's 'Dracula.'Twilight my fat hairy arse!
This week's sentence is: 'I am alone in the castle with those awful women.'
Gird yourselves with garlic and get writing.

Awful women indeed!
Love it!
We must on the same wavelength dive, I quite literally just wrote this for something I'm working on for class.
Demeter’s Final Voyage
Dreary ocean waves
Explode, against
Eerily empty decks—
– Listlessly rolling
Tattered sails rippling
Black & blue skies downpour,
Wet, shiny boards, dark
Waters spray
Crippled, she goes to Whitby
Split boards (& split skies)
Her Russians all gone,
Thunder—
—But a box,
Wood box,
Lid, sides & bottom
Lined in blackened Earth
Locked knot of hemp,
Metal clasp, this too
Grasps no mist
O’ ghostly ship,
Cracked & groaning
Our Captain’s journal
Stained in crimson,
Writes of you
His body on the helm,
Face pale, back broken
Neither Heaven
Nor Hell,
But Purgatory
This vessel—
—so damned
By England’s jutted rock,
You walk upon the shore
Wolf marks,
In the beach,
& the death,
of Demeter
Hee hee, Mme. Present company excepted, of course.
Adonia: Enjoy!
Todd: Woah! Awesome coincidence!
Whitby has lost a lot of its romance since Dracula landed there. It no longer trades timber and coal with the Russians at Archangelsk but is reduced to a kinda cheesy holiday resort for those hardy folk who can withstand arctic gales from the North Sea.
Demeter and Poseidon, however, certainly still knock the crap out of one another all along that stormy stretch of coast.
Wonderful writing, as always.
LOL! I am indeed honored.
It's really all my husband's fault. He has been watching re-runs of "Angel" obsessively for two week straight.
I'm surprised "Buffy" hasn't come into this conversation yet. Isn't she one of your favorites?
Mmmmmmm … Buffy!
David has impeccable taste, Katherine (as if we didn't know that already).
Hahaha. I forgot about your Buffy lust Dive. I'll admit, only because Maria does, to eating up those silly Twilight books. Gotta love all that teen angst. I really like making fun of the main girl and her horribly drab personality but the other characters are totally cooool.
Oh wait, we're talking about Dracula now though aren't we? I'll have to come back and see what comes of this toothy topic. ; }>'
Ah, Shan, my Buffy lust still rages. I've even got Katie watching the thing now.
I must confess to never having read a Twilight book so I shouldn't really mock them.
Dracula, on the other hand, is still a totally awesome read.
I understand the Buffy lust. Having all seven seasons captured gloriously on my shelf. Should the day come where undead rise above the Earth, I'll look to my wife to don leather pants and defend me - kicking ass & looking great.
Todd: Me, too. The Big Box Of Buffy comes out once a year for a full-on, seven series wallow.
Right now I'm part way through series seven (for the umpteenth time - see my old Buffy posts way down in the sidebar for more trash).
Is it me? Or is there nothing like Buffy pajamas to gear up for springtime?
Ah, those yummy sushi pyjamas. A classic scene.
Here you go, friend!
