Three hearty cheers for The British Library, who have just made over a million old illustrations freely available online.
Never one to resist temptation I have been mining them for the inevitable tasteless caption possibilities.

Three people were lost in the forest because Nigel, never one to ask directions, refused to stop at the near-by McDonald's to ask for help. And the women, Thelma and Louise, temporarily tied to their "star" realized Nigel's use of the phrase "tie the knot" wasn't what they had been led to believe, thereby setting in motion a phrase of their own ... "disappeared."
Every picture tells a story, Speedway, and with a mind as fertile as your own those stories get pretty good.
