何かには週末

More retro cosplay hilarity with Pizzicato Five (this is turning into Pizzicato Five Nostalgia-fest Week here at the Planet).
I love the awesomely cheesy Hammond solo on this one.

Today's post is especially dedicated to my mum and to anyone else who ever gets into their head the absurdly horrifying notion that brown might someday come back into fashion.

Ah, the seventies; the original and genuine decade that taste forgot.

Yesterday's Japanese phrase for you to learn was, of course:

踊りませんか
"Odorimasenka"

A polite way to ask a girl if she might not care to dance.

踊る "Odoru" is the plain form of the verb to dance;

踊ります "odorimasu" the polite form.

When asking a girl it is nicer to inquire whether she might "not" like to dance;
踊りません "odorimasen" is the negative with か "ka" making it a question.

Today's phrase is in the title of the post.
If anyone is silly enough to use Babelfish, yesterday's translated as "It doesn't threaten?" for the hiragana, and with the correct kanji: "It doesn't dance?" … probably not the translation you want to use unless you like your face slapped.

ha ha very funny, sorry but cannot afford to not wear all the brown I have in the wardobe, and nowadays Brown is the new Black!!

Still have to figure out what I wore in the forties for the hanger dance in June..did not like that period either......

I do remember what I wore when you boys were small though as you have shown on here!

Black is the only "new black" permitted on my planet.
Brown is 1970s.
It's as seventies as that moustache.

One thing I love about Pizzicato Five is their obsessive attention to period detail in their delightfully cheesy videos.

Forties dresses were cool! There are a bunch of them in Katie's postcard archive if you get short of ideas.

So does Japanese writing not have a question mark? Do they use ka instead?

dive said...

They do indeed use "ka", Lupine Lady, though as their language has been written down for a lot longer than ours we should really say we use a "?" instead of a "ka", rather than the other way around..

lol are YOU my Anonymous spammer over at mine? :)

Sorry Alifan I'm with Dive on this one. Black is the one for me. Brown is yuk and green is a never never. lol - just me.

Hoorah for taste and decency.
And hee hee for the Vogue cover, Lynn.

No; stupid and annoying as I can be, I am not your stupid and annoying anonymous spammer. They are using Mandarin and not Japanese.
Sorry.

God, I want to use this phrase sooo badly.

But, who can I ask to dance? Just Bing and she wouldn't look at me in awe because I am so smart and savvy, talking in Japanese.

Maybe I need to go to a disco for lunch....:)

Hey, look. It's Sonny Bono.

I like the phrase "decade that taste forgot."

dive said...

Maria: teach it to Liv!

Hee hee, Robyn! They did make a splendid job of evoking that tacky period, didn't they?

The seventies. What a decade.

I hope that's irony, young Sassy.
Hee hee.

I hope Neetzy forwards your post on to her daughter. She's totally into the whole Japanese culture. I think she is taking some kind of class too.

I love cheesy videos! Bring em' on Dive!

The video was campy fun, but all that spinning around camera work almost set off my labynthitis so I had to stop watching. Pure cheez though!

Alifan don't listen to Dive and the anti-brown group; brown is a perfectly acceptable color if it suits you. I had my colors done a few years ago and brown is a much better neutral for me than black. (I'm mostly "earthy rich" with no "striking contrast" so I shouldn't wear black or bright white tops, although I still do.) Yay for brown!

lol you're not stupid and annoying Dive x I'm becoming quite used to my spammer in fact. I have no idea what he's on about that's the shame of it. Such a waste of comment.

Can you IMAGINE brown on Vogue? No, no, I just wasn't able.......sigh........:)

Shazza: I know! She's into the same gothic-lolita fashions and cosplay as Louisa in my class which is cool.

You asked for cheesy videos; I have plenty, though none as cheesy as your classic series!

Katie: Sorry about the labyrinthitis; I'll post a less dizzying video tomorrow.

Ah, California! The crazy land where you can pay someone to tell you what colours to wear. Hee hee.
Don't believe your colour-therapist (or whatever they are called); brown is just plain wrong.
Poo is brown.
Nazis wore brown shirts.
It's a fine colour for coffee but you really shouldn't be wearing it.
I've seen you in blue jeans and a navy/white top and you looked gooood! So let's have no more of this icky brown talk. The seventies are something we truly do not want to re-live.

Lynn: I get a load of Chinese spam emails at the office. I asked Spring to translate for me and it turns out I am not even worthy of porn or viagra; they are just trying to sell me pirated Windoze software (a double insult for a Mac man).

Cheltenhamdailyphoto said...

I'm intrigued now....what am I worthy of?

dive said...

Regrettably, Lynn, it seems you are no more worthy of exciting things than I am.
I ran some of your spam through Babelfish and it reads:
"The most emerging advertisement to make public method, the SEO search marketing has provided the specialized key words place and the SEO search engine optimization service at present, let your website lead in the SEO place, welcome the expert who inquired of SEO"

Dull and disappointing, but at least it's not porn.

Ah, Small Glass Planet! The crazy blog where for free I can have a man with a minimalist approach to fashion (if it’s black, wear it) tell me what colours (it’s your blog so I’ll use your spelling) to wear. I will continue to believe my colour guru, and will pay no attention to your comment that brown is wrong. Just because you think it’s wrong (and reminds you of excrement, nazis and the 70s), that’s no reason to assume that it’s wrong for everyone. And no amount of flattery will get you out of the doghouse you’ve put yourself in for maligning one of my favourite colors. Just for that I’m going to go shopping on my lunch hour and buy something BROWN!

dive said...

Hey! It's free! Hee hee.
Three things:
Brown is wrong.
There is no such word as "color".
My ass is in real trouble.

Anonymous said...

Katie, post a picture of your brown purchase.

Dive: I don't think it's your ass you should be worrying about. Does the name Lorena Bobbitt ring a bell? ;)
Brown happens to be my favorite SKIN color.

Lupine Lady: I'd rather Katie posted a photo of her asterisk minidress and gogo boots! Hee hee.

Cali: There are times when I am grateful for that big wide ocean and that big wide continent that separate me from California.
