The Return Of 500 Words

Hoorah for Petrea!
I've been itching to restart 500 Words for months now, but until this morning and Petrea's fantastic "Zen Monday" post (already the inspiration behind my old WTF Monday series) my writing mojo had been suffering from erectile dysfunction. No matter how much literary foreplay I stroked it with the damned thing just hung there as limp as a damp sock. It's hard for a man when he can't get his pen up … or perhaps hard is not the best word … er.

Then I saw Petrea's photograph (reproduced with her kind permission):

How brilliant is THAT? My first thought when I saw those feet at the bottom was that you could write a hundred stories based around the picture.

So …
I've already written one (another Bartleby story - surprise, surprise) and it's over at my 500 Words blog.
It would make an old man very happy if more of you would join in and write your own tales of what might have happened in this garage parking lot.
Y'all know the rules.
Or at least you should do by now. If you need a refresher they're down in the sidebar on the 500 Words blog.
I'll make the new series of 500 Words monthly rather than weekly to make it easier this time around.
Let me know when your stories are ready and I'll post them up as usual.

Just to be clear: you can write whatever you like, as long as it is precisely 500 words long (the fun is in the editing) and at some point contains the scene in the photo.

Enjoy!

I'm so deeply honored.

Hee hee, Petrea. I think you've started something here. Finding literary quotes suitable for the stories was getting as hard as writing the stories themselves, so I might start using photos for inspiration instead.

So the photo is the inspiration?

Fun, fun! I've read your delightfully murderous piece, and am looking forward to what others post.

Neetzy: Yes indeedy: the photo is the inspiration. You can write anything you like as long as that scene comes into the story somewhere.
I shall append a note to the post making that clearer. Sorry.

Ms.M: I do hope the others join in. Even one or two stories would be fun. I so miss our old writing circle, especially the thrill of discovering just what weirdness lurks in other people's minds.

You are sooooo funny, Dive. I am so glad you've brought this back as I love reading all the stories. Am off to read your story now. Toodle Pip!

Mme, having "pen" trouble is a terrible thing for a man to live with, so I'm relieved to be able to get a story out again.

Dive, you do know your Latin.

It's invaluable for crosswords, Petrea, though I have found few other uses to justify five years of study.

Hi Dive - Left you a present at Lulu Unlimited. You'll probably want to read this one at home, not in the office... It's been a long, cold winter, and a girl's thoughts turn to something warmer. Hee-Hee.
