Goodwood Revival will see a celebration of the Shelby Cobra and I'll probably cry like a baby as those sweet, elegant and sexy machines roar past me.
Carroll Shelby died yesterday.
What he did with his life, however, will ensure his immortality.

Gorgeous car, sugar. When I heard Mr. Shelby had died, I thought about the first time I had the opportunity to drive a real high performance car on a freeway in LA. The owner was a man who was really too old for me to be dating (he was in college, I was just a high school senior), but he had a fast car and the MITM were "taking a break". . .
But, yes, hats will be doffed and a tear will fall when the Cobras go by at next Goodwood Revival.

Still feeling like crap, I'm afraid, but Goodwood is not until September so I hope this thing will have cleared up by then.
Carroll Shelby used to turn up at the Revival regularly, shepherding teams of his beautiful classic racing cars. He was a larger than life character and will be sorely missed.
Sadly, in a town that has a very famous race each May, the news of Carroll Shelby's death only got an incidental line of blue type on the newspaper's home page, a link, nothing like it did for "Time magazine's Richard Stengel defends breast-feeding cover..." or "Speedway record unlikely to fall this year." I have pictures, somewhere, of the new Viper when it was chosen pace car for the '500.' I'll have to find them for you.

I know how his designs give you pleasure, Dive, and I'm sorry. Also shocked there wasn't more mention in the Indianapolis paper, per Speedway. This isn't a story I would know about, if not for the two of you.
I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
But the Cobra will live on.
