I've looked at the picture, enlarged it, thought about it...

I think I'll let someone else go first.

Petrea: Me too. The 'Equipments' looks like it would put my back out as soon as I got on it.
I suspect it might also chafe the parts of a body that don't like to be chafed.
Oooo …

It looks like a cross between an exercise bike, a crotch rocket and a mechanical bull.

It reminds me of unpleasant annual experiences with my doctor. There. I've said it. Really, if my mind were normal it would remind me of pleasant childhood experiences with my horse. But I rode western, not English.

Robyn, I suppose I shouldn't have to ask but is a crotch rocket what it sounds like?

Robyn: I second Petrea's query, with a raised eyebrow and an unsuccessful attempt to hide a smirk.

Petrea: Fortunately, my doctor doesn't have one of these in her office, though you CAN see a field of horses from the window.

I’ll admit I stood in front of this machine for quite a while at the Taipei airport a few weeks ago trying to decide whether to give it a try. The other “equipments” consisted of a scale and a blood pressure arm sleeve, but I couldn’t figure out what this was supposed to do. It looked like it could actually be, ahem, fun, but alas I chickened out. At least it was good for a WTF moment!

It probably catapults small children into the ceiling tiles.

Katie: You should have posed Eric on top of it. You certainly do have an eye for the WTF moment.

Todd: One would certainly hope so.

FYI, I got the following email from my mom this morning: "On a whim, I googled 'panasonic saddle thing' and waddya know, it's an ab strengthener. Costs about $2K. I guess it acts sort of like those ride 'em cowboy horses that try to throw you off and you strengthen your core trying to stay on. Go figure!" Yay mom for figuring it out! I would have posed Eric on this, but he flew back through Singapore so I was on my own in Taipei.

Crotch Rocket: a single-rider motorcycle designed so the rider leans forward to grip the handles, and the foot rests are toward the back. It sounds much more risque than it is.

Thanks, Katie and Robyn. I turn on the computer and both of you enlightened me and burst my bubble at the same time!

Katie: Hoorah for Cynthia! What a wonderful mind she has.
I think I'll give the abs strengthener a miss as that thing would put my back out as soon as I got on it.

Robyn: I smell a mis-spent youth.
Fess up.

Petrea: it is amazing what one can learn from blogs. And slightly disturbing, too.

Well, this is certainly an educational post...it IS amazing what one can learn from blogs.

I wonder if you could put a coin (or 4 or 5) in the slot and stand by to watch what it does from a safe distance? Nice vicarious thrill.

I hope I didn't burst anyone's imagination bubble by revealing what this nutty looking contraption is. I must admit that at first I thought it was a....well, I won't say what I thought...just never mind!

Petrea Burchard said...

Maybe you thought what I thought, Cynthia. Frankly I'm grateful to you for your brilliant research.

Ms.M: It never fails to surprise and alarm me.

Lupine Lady: That's my kind of exercise machine: one that you simply sit and watch while it goes through its routine.

Cynthia: Your imaginative sleuthing has certainly provided us with lots of entertainment.
As for what you first thought it was … I shall refrain from tempting my sheltered and innocent mind along such dangerous paths.

Petrea: Brilliant research indeed. I am so glad the 'equipments' are now safely identified.

This isn't a ride on buffing machine? The cleaners of the world will be mightily disappointed.

It does look like a cross between a horse saddle and the gynecology table.

Supposedly "riding" is good exercise. (I knew it was good exercise for the horse).

I'm up for it. I used to be quite the horsewoman.

But, I cannot imagine what it would look like to the outsider if you were caught simulating the motions of "riding". It looks an awful lot like "humping" if you are not on a horse!

dive said...

Lucio: Hee hee! I shall look at cleaners in a different light from now on.

Neetzy: It does indeed look just like you describe. Ick!
Quite apart from the loss of dignity you'd suffer sat astride that thing, it just doesn't seem as much fun without the horse.
Having said that, it certainly doesn't crap everywhere and it doesn't take so much looking after.
I'd still prefer a horse, though.

neetzy said...

I agree the horse would be much more fun. On the bright side, the crap is good for the garden. Think Spring!

dive said...

Yay, Spring! Thank you for the much-needed reminder, Neetzy.
