Don't ask me what happened.
A couple of days ago Dear Prudence alerted me to the fact that my blog (yup, this one) had disappeared off the interweb. I tried accessing it but Blogger would not recognise me as owning the site.
I then went through all their "help" options, none of which were any help.
In the end I gave up and mourned the loss of four-and-a-half years of work, writing, photos, relationships with you all, cookery posts, political rants, religious arguments and all of my music.
I have no idea what the fuck happened but mum called me this morning to tell me the blog is back.
For how long I have no idea, so now I've got to spend the weekend copying every single smegging post and burning them onto DVD in case it all goes tits-up again.
Many thanks to Shan, by the way, for offering to save it all for me from her blogroll. What a star.
Anyhoo, I'm back and I'm boring, so look out.
Sheesh!

Phew thank goodness for that, I really missed it even if it was for a short time.. Good luck is coming your way my dear things are getting better...
How strange, sugar! I just found out that no one had seen any updates on their readers about my blog since 23NOV. Glad you're back and hope to read more soon. I'm suffering from blogger malaise. xoxoxoxo
Yay!! So it's not the end of an era after all. I'm so glad you're back, Dive. But your hardly boring.
Yup. Back again. Unless of course Blogger does the same dumb thing again tomorrow.
We shall see.
Phew! Thank Goddess you're back. We were just talking about you over at my place.
Vanda, reading all your comments made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. You guys rule.
"...Warm and fuzzy inside..."
Did you eat a Muppet for breakfast?
Nyuk-nyuk.
Hee hee hee.
I now see what your laborious process is. Oh god, nearly three years of daily posts. I don't know if I'm up to it. I wonder if there's another way.
Off to Google. I'm sure I won't find the answer at Blogger "help."
It's kinda fun so far, Petrea. Lots and LOTS of wallowing in nostalgia and giggling at old posts and - best of all - re-reading all the comment-fests. Sheesh! Some of the religious and political arguments would make decent length books in themselves.
It might just reinvigorate me and get me blogging properly again.
Hahaha and Weeee! I know you are hugely relieved. I hate that you had to go through all that worry and grief just to get it back a few days later. This is a good reminder to have a back up plan for sure.
Ahh, the good old days when I actually had time to read everything and dig into blog world getting to know you. I'm too busy to remember appointments now and a deep thought is few and far between! I'm so glad you have the whole shebang back. It is a vast body of work and hilarity! :D
So glad the small glass planet is alive and well! I totally freaked and geeked when I could not access my favorite blogger! I have been an inconsistent blogger this year, but I know that I can always visit Dive.
Welcome back! I was startled, too, when I clicked on your blog and Blogger said it didn't exist! I later was able to access it by going to Lynn's blog, clicking on your profile from your comment and it opened your blog, but the website address didn't have the www. Very strange.
Well, now we're all ready for some of your "boring" comments ;)
YAY! You are back. Was wondering where you went. Some of us thought you were maimed by fried twinkies inflicted upon you by the office children.
How do you back up a blog? I know how to save the template, but what about the content?
Glad you're back dive. I think this story should replace your WTF Monday this coming week. Because truly, WTF?
You know, I've been sort of off in my own little world for a while, but I DID feel a disturbance in the force. It must have been your blog problems.
Shan: Yes, the good old days of Blogville, when our comments could go on to novel length. I do miss that.
Neetzy: Yes, it's back and still here, mercifully. All I have to do now is get my writing mojo back.
Ms.M: I am so relieved to have the stupid blog back. I shall do my best to come up with some more boring stuff soon.
Katherine: I've been maimed by a Twinkie once in my life (well, I tried one and kind of survived) but once is enough!
Oh, and many congratulations on getting your 500 Words stories published. Woohoo! I am so pleased.
Todd: WTF indeed. I think I used somewhat stronger language when the blog went AWOL. As for saving the content and comments, all I am doing is copying and pasting them. Laborious but effective.
Maria: It certainly disturbed MY force. Hopefully things will get back to whatever serves for normality now.
Here! Here! Dive. Fuckity Fuckity Fuckity!
Speaking of a good swearfest, we need a 500 words to round out the year!
Verification word: tesolded (v) 1. to have relinquished belongings in exchange for favor. e.g. "Yo man, what happened to yo' house?" "Tesolded." "What'd ya get for it?" "Tefucked."
Hey hun,
Rather than burning everything onto dvd try downloading a site called "blub booksmart". they have a function where you can just have them slurp your whole blog into a book format.
And yes i am back and ranty as hell. :)
Is there a fee for that service? Interested minds want to know.
You can't keep a good man down. Probably the same people who knocked the hell out of Prince Charles's Rolls Royce thought they could have their way with your blog. No way! A swift kick to their "jewels" and Dive is back in business.
Todd: Hee fuckity hee!
Kate: Yay! Welcome back again to Blogville, your rantiness.
I checked out Booksmart. Unfortunately I don't have enough arms, legs or internal organs to sell to pay for SGP to sucked into a book but I've been having some fun with the old 500 Words stories. The thing really does suck your entire blog off the web and onto page layouts ready for binding. Fun!
Mark: Had I been quick enough to realise what was going on I'd have been there smacking the shit out of Chazza's limo myself.
Dive dear, that must have been scary. When I removed my blog from the web, I had the option of saving it to my hard drive, which I did. Perhaps there is a similar option if you don't delete it, to save you burning all those CDs.
Okay, so I tried the Blogger backup again. What I had to do was first, open it with Windows Explorer. Then I had to save it after it was open. Some of the font still looks funky, but I think that's because I have copy/pasted into my blog from other HTML sources. I suspect if I export the material into a second blog, it will fix itself. I am going to experiment with it later.
Do you mean you had to open the blog with Explorer? Hmm. I wonder what the Mac equivalent would be.
While updating my blog and moving things around I used the Import/Export feature. It worked well enough, though I don't have the level of content you folks do. Maybe that's the issue?
Speaking of. I exported my 500 words stories to a separate blog linked from the main page. But it let me determine which posts I wanted published and which I wanted deleted. Hrm.
And now? Let's do the cha-cha.
