The Loneliness of the Long Distance Penny-Farthing Rider

I really have no idea what's going on here but this book was available to Victorian children. No wonder this nation is so fucked up.

It's unclear, to say the least.

What a very strange picture. I wonder if there's someone hiding from us behind the rocks.

Hokay, I'll tell you.
This is from a very strange book about a guy who takes his penny-farthing around the world. On this page he was stuck in a muddy ravine and had to strip off and carry his cycle through the mud.
An innocent explanation given an hilariously inappropriate illustration.
The British Library houses some truly bizarre volumes.

Why do they look like they were all drawn by the same person? Was it an accepted style? Or am I fooled by the ecru paper?

Hokay, you've rumbled me. I drew them all.
