It's Monday, It's November, My Back Hurts.

So here's a photo of a doorway just for the heck of it.

Norman south doorway at Heckingham St.Gregory's Church, just across the river from me and down a bit.

Somewhere in one of my old drawing folios is a view I made of the church, many decades ago. When my back gets well enough to move around without screaming I might dig it out and post it.

Or I might forget …

Beautiful doorway. I like all the different designs in the upper section. I wonder how many different designs one can find on Norman doorways. Sorry to hear about your back. I hope that heals quickly!

Hi, Katie. Now there's a thought. I'm sure someone must have compiled all the designs in a book. I'll have to photograph a load more and post them.
BTW, I got your boffo postcard; what an immaculate D-Type. It's now in a snap frame in the bedroom.
The back is taking its sweet time but will get better eventually.

Lovely doorway. We don't have those in Pasadena, just so you know. This is why we have to come to the UK as often as possible.

Take good care of yourself!

I hope your back has been healing well since you made this post.

The door looks like the entryway to a chichi pie bakery, advertising all its fancy crimpings in its archway.

Were the stones done by one guy or by several, perhaps a group of apprentices, all working to duplicate the master's design?

Back is on the mend, thank you both.

Yup: one master mason and a bunch of skilled minions and apprentices (though the apprentices would be restricted to just square blocks at first - just as they are now at the Castle).

HEY, SWEETPEA!

Glad your back is better and you're on the mend. That doorway is beyond impressive! It reminds me of the attempts/adoption of Mayan decorative arts that were popular here in LA during the 30s-40s. Or maybe Art Deco? Anyway, certainly nowhere as impressive as those stone works. xoxo

I found this on Instagram. I hope you can see it. The page is called "Church of the Day".
