One For Speedway.

Speedway posted a nice video today of Eric Clapton and Wynton Marsalis doing a big band Noo Orleans version of one of my favourite old blues songs.

I know most of you have heard all this crap too many times over the years, but Speedway seems to think you need to be able to read music and have a natural ear to be able to play.
Well musical blindness and deafness never stopped me, so I say pick up a guitar and go for it, girl. It's never too late to start playing the blues (especially in this economic climate).
Here's a completely different version of the song: The Blind Willies (Michael and me) inspired by a Pinetop Perkins '78 record of "44 Blues" just for Speedway.

Sorry about the drop-out in the middle; very old and fragile tape recordings tend to do that.

Ooh, thank you, Dive. I think my musical talent only extends to playing CD's, though. I'd love to be able to sing; I can't hear myself, but it's thin and reedy, for sure. I've another Nina Simone CD on the way, though, that has "I Loves You Porgy" so maybe I'll try to learn that. My repertoire so far extends only to "Blue Christmas," sort of Porky Pig like. :-D

Sing out loud and proud, Speedway. I wish I could do the same but my voice sounds like someone trod on a very nasal rat.
And play guitar, too. It's so easy even I can do it.
Go for it!

"so easy even I can do it." Are you kidding? You're brilliant, Dive, and you know it. Nothing easy about playing at your skill level.

Thanks for posting this photo and song—we can never get enough.

It IS easy, Speedway.
And I agree that we can never get enough of hearing blues songs, but I'm not so sure about the photo. It's not so much "Handsome, ain't we?" as "Handsome we ain't!"

I slipped and slid my way over to the Coke Field this afternoon, singing all the way. And laughing at myself. Is there such as thing as happy blues? "I'll have a b-b-blue C-Christmas w-w-without youuuuu!"

Great stuff! Hope we'll hear more from The Blind Willies....

A comedy blues duo … that's a new concept, Speedway.

Mum, you'll be able to hear all the cock-ups much more clearly now.

Hee hee, Speedway; that Porky Pig Blue Christmas will stay with me for a long time.

Ms.M. a lot of it is back in the archives, but next time I get blog-dried I might wheel some out.

Comedy duo, as in the Blues Brothers? Naw, I meant that YOU provoke a mirthful reaction from me, as expressed by laughter, chortles, giggles, and incredulous guffaws.

I'm a sucker for a raucous chortle, Speedway.

OK, raucous you got, b-b-baby. :-)
